Parashat Bo (Exodus 10:1 - 13:16)
A weekly Torah exploration for families by Michael S. Raileanu, M.A.Ed.
After the first seven plagues, this week's parasha, Bo (Exodus 10:1 - 13:16) gives us the final three: locusts, darkness and the death of the first born. We also get to the first observance of Passover and the basic commandments that go with it.
- Why wasn't Pharaoh killed as part of the 10th plague? Why do you think it was worse for him to stay alive?
- What would the people of Egypt think of Pharaoh's power after the 10th plague? Do you think they still believed he was a god after the first nine plagues? Did the 10th really make a difference to average Egyptians?
- God says the He is going to execute His judgement against the gods of Egypt, what do you think that means? Does that mean that God believes in the gods of Egypt?
- Shouldn't God have known which of the houses belonged to the Israelites? Did He really need them to put blood on their doorposts? Why or why not? Why else might God have told them to do it? For whom was the blood really intended?
- Pharaoh calls Moses and Aaron to him in the middle of the night as the 10th plague is striking. What do you think Moses and Aaron saw as they went to Pharoah's house? Do you think they were afraid to go out? Would you have gone? Why or why not? Do you think they rushed over there? Why?
